Following an incident covered under a construction damage insurance policy, the Maharin nursing home had to undertake a complete reconstruction of its floors, partitions, and central kitchen. After more than two years of assessments and legal proceedings, the decision to proceed with the work was finally approved.
In this critical situation, the top priority was clear: to ensure the continuity of service for the 80 meals per shift provided to residents, without any interruptions or compromises to health and safety. LocaCuisines was therefore tasked with deploying a 72-square-meter modular rental kitchen that was fully operational and suited for institutional meal production at a long-term care facility.
Temporary Kitchen Setup After a Disaster
When a medical-social facility experiences an incident that affects its kitchen, finding a solution for kitchen renovations becomes a matter of vital importance. In this case, the layout of the facility did not allow for any interruption in food production.
Our project centered on a temporary post-disaster kitchen facility, designed to ensure strict continuity of service in compliance with HACCP standards and the requirements of health authorities.
The main challenges identified:
- Ensure the continuity of work in the nursing home kitchen without outsourcing production
- Maintaining a Smooth Workflow During Renovations in a Professional Kitchen
- Deploy a fully self-contained modular kitchen within a tight timeframe
- Ensuring the same level of food safety as in a permanent kitchen
The temporary kitchen was designed as a fully-fledged, independent production unit, taking into account the operational constraints of an active nursing home.
With over 30 years of experience, a fleet of 700 modules, and a 100% French team, LocaCuisines is able to respond to this type of operational crisis with agility and precision.

Temporary Professional Kitchen for a Nursing Home
For the Maharin nursing home, the chosen layout features a 72 m² production kitchen made up of prefabricated modules, optimized for a kitchen staff of three.
This modular kitchen was designed to replicate the features of a traditional central kitchen while remaining fully disassemblable and adaptable.
Technical Specifications of the System
- Electrical power capacity suitable for hot and cold production equipment
- Complete drinking water and wastewater connections, with secure wastewater management
- Ventilation and exhaust system compliant with ERP standards
- Clean/dirty waste management in compliance with nursing home health protocols
- Modules assembled into a watertight, insulated, and fire-resistant structure
This setup ensures that 80 meals can be served per meal without any disruption to service, even during construction.
The modular design of the equipment also makes it possible to adapt the kitchen to the various phases of construction work in a commercial kitchen, particularly during major work on utility lines or floors.
In this type of project, a temporary professional kitchen for nursing homes is not merely a stopgap solution—it becomes a vital tool for ensuring operational continuity.

Proven expertise in sensitive environments
Every modular kitchen project in a nursing home requires a rigorous approach:
- Food Supply Chain Management at an Occupied Site
- Strict adherence to hygiene standards in healthcare settings
- Anticipating Construction Constraints
- Securing any electrical and gas systems
In this project, coordination with experts, economists, and project managers from the very outset of the incident ensured that the work was implemented in a manner that was fully integrated into the overall construction schedule.
Service Continuity: The Critical Challenge for Nursing Homes Under Renovation
Construction work in nursing home kitchens poses a major risk to the continuity of meal service for residents. Any interruption is out of the question.
That is why renting a modular kitchen is now the most reliable solution for:
- Maintain on-site production
- Securing Supplies
- Avoid relying on costly and less controllable outsourced solutions
- Ensuring Consistent Food Quality
This approach stands out as a viable solution for kitchen operations, particularly in healthcare and social service settings where service stability is a top priority.
Conclusion: A proven solution for critical situations
The Maharin nursing home project perfectly illustrates LocaCuisines’ ability to operate in complex, post-disaster situations while ensuring seamless food service continuity.
Thanks to a 72-square-meter modular kitchen, engineering solutions tailored to health and safety requirements, and expert management of temporary facilities, meal service was able to continue for all residents.
